This Slow Cooker Peanut Butter Chocolate Cake Is a Foolproof Dessert

Did you know it’s possible to make a chocolate cake in your slow cooker? Well it is, and even though the cake might take two hours in the slow cooker (as opposed to 15 minutes in a regular oven), you should try it anyway because it’s summer and we really don’t want to turn on our ovens right now.

Start with a box of devil’s food cake mix. Whisk the powdered mix together with some water, melted butter, and eggs until the mixture is combined. There might be a few small lumps left behind when you’re finished, but that’s fine. Gently fold in a whole 8-ounce package of mini Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.

To make a cake in a slow cooker, start by spraying the bowl with nonstick spray. Pour in the batter and even it out on top, then cook it for two hours on high, but don’t take the lid off until it’s done.

While the cake bakes, make the topping by heating peanut butter in a small saucepan until it’s smooth and melted, but don’t let it burn. Add powdered sugar and whisk it until it’s smooth and slightly thickened.

When the cake is done, remove it from the heat and pour the peanut butter frosting right over it. Crumble some more peanut butter cups on top, because this dessert deserves to look like the indulgent fantasy cake it is. Serve it in slices, or under a big scoop of ice cream. Whether or not you choose to share this or keep the whole thing for yourself is entirely up to you.
